Community service is one of Rho Psi Eta's founding principles. As future healthcare workers, it is important for us to give back to the communities we are involved in, even in times of confusion and hardship. Each semester, Rho Psi Eta holds a fundraising event organized by its newest member class and community service projects.
This semester's fundraising event was an online bingo board fundraiser that raised over $600 for the Advocacy Center in Ithaca. This semester, Rho Psi Eta held two community service projects. The first was a food collection for the Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard, a local food pantry in Ithaca. For our second service project, our sisters crafted dog and cat toys for Willow's Wings, a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal sanctuary.
For our fundraising event this semester, our sisters took part in the GlamourGals #MyDearFriend campaign where each sister wrote ten letters that were sent to isolated seniors. Our community service event this semester consisted of raising money for a charity of personal choice through the Charity Miles app.
Due to COVID-19, our organization was entirely online the Spring 2020 semester, which affected our options regarding philanthropy. As our fundraising event the Spring 2020 semester, we held an online fundraiser selling fabric face masks to raise money for FoodNet in Tompkins County. For every face mask that was sold, we donated a mask to the West Hills Animal Hospital in Long Island, New York. For our community service projects, sisters either used Charity Miles to raise money for the organization of their choice or contributed to science projects through Zooniverse.
